To get a call asking the Sanctuary if we would assist Anne’s move to Longleat by driving her using our HGV tractor unit was a real privilege. Graham travelled to Milton Keynes on Saturday 2nd of April to meet the rest of the movement team and early on Sunday morning he collected Woburn Safari Park’s custom made elephant trailer, kindly loaned by the Duke of Bedford. Then everyone set off for Peterborough to collect Anne.

The question on all of our minds was would Anne enter a strange trailer? Whatever we all think of Bobby Roberts he helped by leading Anne into the trailer with the assistance of Lynne the Head Elephant Keeper from Woburn, encouraging her to lift her rear arthritic legs, as can be seen in the video. Everyone in the team played a necessary and vital role in Anne’s journey – no heroic individuals, everyone contributed. The heroine of the day was Anne who played her part with dignity like the lady she is.

When she emerged from the trailer at Longleat and looked around her there was little doubt that she was home. The pictures of her enjoying life in her first week at Longleat are truly wonderful – she has waited a long time for this
