From London and the East

Take the M4 Motorway heading West to Junction No 32 and then follow the A470 Northwards for around 27 Kilometres (17 miles), passing Merthyr Tydfil, until it joins the A465 (Heads of the Valleys road). Turn left at the A465 roundabout and follow the A465 Westwards heading towards Neath and Swansea.  

After around 16 kilometres (10 miles), and at the bottom of a long hill curving left and downwards, look for the sign to Glynneath and the A4109 road.

Leave the A465 here and go straight across at the traffic lights in Glynneath, heading up a long hill towards Abercrave (Abercraf). Continue on this road which becomes the A4221 and after around 9kilometres (5.6 miles) it starts to dip down towards Abercrave. Half a mile down the hill take the first road on the right, and immediately go left into the entrance road to Cefn-yr-Erw.

From Pembrokeshire and South West Wales 

Take the M4 motorway heading East to junction No 45 and then follow the A4067 North for thirteen miles to the junction with the A4221. Turn right here and follow the A4221 up the hill towards Glyn-Neath and Coelbren. After a couple of bends the road straightens out and continues to climb the hill.

At the sign "Coelbren 1.5 miles" pointing to the left get into the short slip road and turn left here. There is then a junction with another road immediately on the left with signs to the Primate Sanctuary. Go left again here and follow the road into the Sanctuary. 

From the North:

Either... take the A4067 from the A40 and after around 21 kilometres (13 miles) turn left onto the A4221 road, signed to Glyn Neath and Coelbren.  After a couple of bends the road straightens out and continues to climb the hill. 

At the sign "Coelbren 1.5 miles" pointing to the left get into the short slip road and turn left here. There is then a junction with another road immediately on the left with signs to the Primate Sanctuary. Go left again here and follow the road into the Sanctuary.

From: Manchester/Birmingham to Neath or Swansea (Change at Cardiff) Regular services Mon/Sat, Sunday less frequent. Journey times.. Manchester 3hrs 45mins, Birmingham 2hrs 50 mins.

A taxi from Neath Station  (distance 14 miles, costs around £18.00). The bus service from Swansea to Abercrave (every hour) costs around £ 2.50.

Regular bus services run to Neath and Swansea from  London (Victoria Coach Station), Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff.
